What is Astana actually like as a place to live?
Reportedlast checked 2026-08-19
Astana is a young, deliberately built capital: government buildings, glass towers and broad avenues laid out on flat steppe, with a real city of well over a million people around them. It's clean, orderly and well run, with good restaurants, gyms, malls and coffee. It's also spread out and exposed to the wind, which makes it feel emptier than its population suggests, and the architecture divides opinion sharply. Next to a dense old city it can feel planned. Next to an isolated campus, it's a working capital with everything you need.
