Is it safe?

Reportedlast checked 2026-08-19

Astana is a modern, orderly capital and is generally considered safe for foreigners, including walking at night in central districts. Ordinary city sense applies: watch for petty theft in crowds and avoid unofficial taxis. The genuinely dangerous thing here is the cold. Winter exposure is a bigger risk in Astana than crime. Check your government's current travel advice before you book, since advisories change.
